A Lazy Susan is a rotating platform or turntable used for storage and organization purposes. It typically consists of a circular base with a raised platform that rotates freely on bearings, allowing easy access to items placed on it.

Applications:

  • Kitchen cabinets: Commonly used in corner cabinets or on countertops to improve accessibility to stored items, especially those located deep within or behind other objects.
  • Pantries and food storage: Organizes spices, condiments, canned goods, and other pantry staples, making them easily visible and reachable.
  • Refrigerators and cabinets: Smaller turntables can be used within shelves or refrigerators to organize condiments, jars, and smaller items.
  • Dining tables: Large Lazy Susans placed on tabletops allow diners to easily share food and condiments without reaching across the table.
  • Craft rooms and workshops: Useful for organizing tools, supplies, and small parts, keeping them readily accessible.
  • Office desks: Smaller turntables on desks can organize office supplies, keeping them within easy reach.

Types of Lazy Susans:

  • Full-circle: Provides 360-degree rotation, maximizing accessibility in corner cabinets.
  • Half-circle: Fits against a wall or in smaller cabinets, offering partial rotation.
  • Pie-cut: Shaped like a pie slice, ideal for tight spaces or specific cabinet configurations.
  • Kidney-shaped: Offers a unique shape, optimizing space utilization in certain cabinets.
  • Multi-tiered: Provides additional storage space vertically with multiple revolving levels.
  • Electric: Motorized turntables offer effortless rotation, particularly beneficial for heavy items.

Benefits:

  • Improved accessibility: Makes stored items easily reachable, minimizing the need to move or remove other objects.
  • Space optimization: Utilizes corner spaces effectively and maximizes storage capacity in cabinets and on countertops.
  • Enhanced organization: Promotes orderly and categorized storage, simplifying item retrieval and reducing clutter.
  • Convenience: Easy rotation allows quick access to items from any angle, improving user experience.

Considerations:

  • Size and weight capacity: Choose a Lazy Susan suitable for the intended items and weight load.
  • Material: Options include wood, plastic, metal, and polymer, each with varying durability, aesthetics, and cost.
  • Rotation mechanism: Ball bearings generally offer smoother and quieter rotations.
  • Installation: Some models require installation in cabinets, while others are portable for countertop use.

Lazy Susan (Wikipedia)

A lazy Susan is a turntable (rotating tray) placed on a table or countertop to aid in distributing food. Lazy Susans may be made from a variety of materials but are usually glass, wood, or plastic. They are circular and placed in the centre of a table to share dishes easily among diners. Owing to the nature of Chinese cuisine, especially dim sum, they are common at formal Chinese restaurants both in mainland China and abroad. In Chinese, they are known as 餐桌转盘 (t. 餐桌轉盤) (p cānzhuō zhuànpán) or "dinner-table turntables".
